High Fidelity Wraparound (HFWA) is a process helping families with complex needs that are at significant risk of breakdown or are preparing for a child/youth being reunited with the family unit.
This process is based upon 10 principles that are family driven, community based and build upon the natural supports and strengths of families.
HFWA services are available to all types of families, i.e., natural, step, blended, foster, or kinship families as well as to youth who may not have involvement with their family.
Our program is unique in that we are the second location in Canada to be implementing the HFWA process.
HFWA works as part of a team consisting of many agencies that have a vested interest and capabilities to provide the services needed.
Families need to have status/involvement with Calgary & Area Child and Family Services (CFSA). The Caseworker assigned makes a referral for the family to participate in HFWA. This is received by the Placement Services contact that assesses fit for HFWA. If the family is a fit then the Caseworker connects with the Agency who has availability to accept a new family.
It is anticipated that most families will have either a Family Enhancement Agreement or Supervision Order or have a temporary care order if a child/youth is reuniting with the family.
In addition to the ten Wraparound Principles, we believe:
- That children and youth belong in families living in the community and therefore need support in their homes and communities so as to avoid out of home care whenever possible.
- The most effective care for children and youth and their families is based in their community.
- Families benefit from having natural supports and resources to thrive and these need to be developed so that families have an effective support network to increase their resilience.
- We also believe that the strengths of families are the core from which positive change is achieved.
- Family choice and empowerment are at the core of HFWA.
