Secure Services provides a necessary confined and secure setting for at risk youth ages 7-18 years old.
Our program assesses and stabilizes young people who are considered to be at high risk of harm to themselves or others in the community.
Through our program, youth are provided treatment, resources and supports to help break the cycle of high risk behaviours.
Secure Services receives its mandate through the Child, Youth and Family Enhancement Act (Enhancement Act). It is a court ordered placement and the maximum length of stay for youth is 30 days.
Our program offers a high degree of structure for children and adolescents in a safe and locked environment. The most common concerns demonstrated by youth requiring our services are suicidal tendencies, aggressive behaviours and dangerous lifestyles. Many are suspected or diagnosed with mental health or behavioural disorders.
We focus on six primary goal areas:
- Assessment
- Stabilization
- Individualized treatment planning and intervention
- Trust-building and relationship formation
- Establishment and/or reconnection with family, community based supports and other resources
- Discharge planning.
We work through each goal area with the youth in our program for their duration of stay. We believe that children and adolescents should be secured for the least amount of time required and that it is important these young people remain connected to their community supporters and relationships.
A collaborative team approach is used to ensure services are effective and that they address physical, mental, emotional, spiritual and cultural needs.
