Preadolescent Treatment Program (PTP)
Contact Us
Preadolescent Treatment Program (PTP) is a residential treatment program for kids ages 6 to 12 years old with emotional, behavioural, and social difficulties.
We provide a safe, predictable and nurturing environment designed to reduce high risk behaviours demonstrated by the kids in our program.
Establishing positive and stable relationships and improving social and emotional functioning helps to improve our kids’ connections to their communities and culture.
PTP serves children involved with Children’s Services. Referrals are made by Case Workers and triaged through Children’s Services. Children typically present with mental health disorders and are currently unable to safely and successfully reside within family or community settings.
Each child in PTP is assigned a counsellor who works closely with them to help them achieve their goals as outlined in the triage process. Depending on their needs, children are also provided with psychological assessments, individual therapy, group therapy, family work, and consultations with a psychiatrist.
Our kids frequently acknowledge that they feel safe and cared for in the PTP program. We strive to build success in all areas of their lives and reintegrate children into family, school, and community settings.
PTP is an intensive treatment setting that is collaborative and multi-disciplinary. The majority of our kids possess low average or above intellectual functioning. Our therapeutic approach encompasses all areas of established needs and we work collaboratively with those who hold vested interest in the well being of our kids.
This includes working closely with schools and natural supports to ensure that treatment goals are being targeted across all settings to ensure maximum success and generalization.
Our program teaches and supports the growth and development of self-confidence, improvements in social skills, behaviour, and academic functioning.
The children are involved in community, recreation activities, cultural events and tutoring programs. Opportunities to work and build relationships with mentors and volunteers help formulate connections and establish trust.
DISCLAIMER: PTP can only be accessed for youth with Children’s Services status and referrals are made by Case Workers.
