Patch is a grassroots, community based program serving families that live in subsidized housing units located in high needs communities.
Patch provides opportunities and services to residents of subsidized housing and others within the communities where we are located.
Our goal is to offer people the support they want and need to reach their personal vision of success.
Patch is a voluntary program and families do not require any type of status or system involvement to be able to access our services. Any family that lives in the housing complex (or surrounding community) where Patch is located can approach the program for support. All Patch offices are located in the same complex units where families reside.
Patch staff facilitate opportunities for families to access the kinds of support they need to be healthy and successful. This includes:
- Counselling services
- Supporting basic needs (including emergency food supplies)
- Access to free computer labs and internet
- Family recreation opportunities
In addition, workshops are offered throughout the year on a variety of topics, including: cooking and nutrition, parenting, personal growth, and arts and crafts. These workshops are facilitated by or with numerous community partners.
PatchWorks is a specific component of Patch that supports employment preparation, job seeking, adult literacy, referrals and links to community services.
Since Patch began in 1998, the communities in which we work are safer and families are accessing more supports and services that help them find stability.
Often, after an individual or family has been supported by a Patch, they become involved in supporting others. By creating their own networks, they work together to identify and find solutions to community challenges.
Patch is offered free of charge.
