Answers to our most frequently asked questions

How many people are served by Hull?

  • On any day, over 3,000
  • 70 to 75 live on campus
  • 60 more join us at Hull School on campus or in the community (total over 130 students)
  • 13 live in our two group homes
  • 50 dependent young adults live with counsellors in 19 settings
  • 40 live with our foster families
  • 150 live in the care of a relative or close family friend through our Kinnections program
  • Over 100 live at home (our staff work within the family unit)
  • Many others are served in their homes, schools, work sites and communities.

How old are your kids and how long do they stay?

  • Children in out-of-home care range from 5 to 17 years; we also work with handicapped adults into their 30’s; in the families we help everyone from infants to grandparents
  • The Hull School is certified to teach kindergarten through grade twelve
  • The length of stay ranges from a few days to several years, depending on individual needs.

Why do children and families come to Hull?

  • Hull Child and Family Services provides help for at-risk children, youth, adults and families many of whom experience emotional and psychological disorders, behavioural and learning disabilities, mental illness, developmental delay, neglect and abuse, addictions, poverty, family violence and suicidal issues.

What do you do for your clients?

  • Hull is a non-profit agency which provides a broad spectrum of specialized services to meet the individual needs of our children, families, adults and communities
  • Our services range from community-based prevention and early intervention programs, to in-home family counselling, to remedial education, to intensive and secure residential treatment.
  • Our well-educated and highly trained staff offer individual, group and family therapy, remedial education, academic and vocational development, life skills training, parenting support and family counselling
  • Together, our staff and volunteers ensure that every child feels loved, accepted and worthwhile; we provide hope for the future and opportunities to make life better; we strive to strengthen self-worth, friendships, confidence, responsibility, competence and mastery over their own lives
