Family Initiatives
Contact Us
Family Initiatives is a flexible, community based, in-home support program that addresses a broad spectrum of issues for families referred by Calgary and Area Child and Family Services Authority, (CFSA).
Our program meets with families and provides services that promote permanence, safety, and healthy development of children and families.
This is critical in situations where the family unit may be at risk or is not developing in a healthy way.
Family Initiatives is designed to work in collaboration with all family members to preserve and reunify the family unit, strengthen emotional and physical well being for all and promote family self sufficiency.
We encourage and support family members to draw upon their own skills to find solutions to their problems as well as we help them to develop new knowledge and skill sets that address various situations.
By working with families toward achievements that they see as important, families become empowered and inspired to improve their own lives.
Family Initiatives educates and guides every family we serve to reach their identified goals. A plan to achieve goals is established together while seeking to build on strengths, address areas of difficulty or concern, and improve family functioning.
Each family participating in Family Initiatives is supported to design their own goals and strategies. Staff support includes:
- Connecting families to community resources.
- Reducing risk factors in the home.
- Strengthening the emotional and physical well-being of the family and promote family self-sufficiency.
- Improving parenting skills to create independence and build resiliency.
- Teach new skills, provide counseling support and advocate helping families stay together.
All supports and services are offered for voluntary participation, as agreed with the family.
We take in to consideration the cultural, societal, and community-oriented needs of the family.
By working collaboratively with Family Initiatives staff, who are seeking to support them in reaching their own goals, families find greater independence and are able to greatly improve their own relationships and the way they function together.
