The Cottage One program provides services in a residential environment for special needs youth ages 12–17 years old with developmental, emotional and behavioural problems.
We give skills training and opportunities to build friendships, as well as therapeutic groups, individual counseling, activity programming, and teaching basic life and social skills to foster independence.
We strive to enhance every youth’s ability to contribute to community life thereby maximizing their potential and improving their quality of life.
Youth in Cottage One may struggle due to developmental delays and behavioral challenges. Our program teaches in a structured, predictable environment with an emphasis on building independence.
Many of our youth need to develop their abilities in basic social skills and relating to others in a friendly way. We strive to reduce problematic behavior, increase stability, promote community supports and involvement, develop problem-solving and decision-making abilities and increase self-awareness, self-esteem and self-control.
Our program also attempts to strengthen family connections where possible. Families work as part of the treatment team and are viewed as valued partners in the treatment process. They help to set and achieve goals with their children.
Young people living in this program are supported as they develop the skills they need to live more independently as part of the community.
We believe that new skills and abilities can be learned and that meaningful relationships are a key to effective treatment and to future success.
Cottage One works toward building upon existing strengths and the personal resources each young person has to become a valued member of society.
