Bridging The Gap
Contact Us
Bridging The Gap supports mental health needs for young adult’s ages 16-24 years old.
We work together with our young people and create a strong, flexible approach best suited to meet their personal goals.
Because our program is client driven, we are able to provide the help they need, how they need it. This reduces anxiety, builds trust and teaches necessary skills for independence.
Bridging The Gap works with young people who have been diagnosed with or suspected of having mental heath issues. Most often, young adults who come to us are struggling in one or more areas of their lives. Some suffer with severe anxiety including multiple panic attacks which may prevent them from functioning on a daily basis. Others have more complex challenges such as Borderline Personality Disorder which impacts their ability to cope, retain relationships and manage many aspects of their lives.
Our services provide a range of support as determined by our clients. We ask them what they need and then make every effort possible to ensure we meet their needs. Requirements can be educational, employment, life skills, and basic needs such as housing, transportation or food. Other requirements may be more in-depth. Individuals may need counselling, behavioural training and collaboration with additional mental health providers.
By creating a comfortable environment, establishing trust and customizing each individual’s necessities, we successfully assist these young people in meeting their potential.
Our program has been around for 12 years and we currently serve between 90 – 100 young adults, with a waiting list.
Individuals can request participation in Bridging The Gap on their own or may be referred by other industry professionals such as social workers, outreach workers, therapists, school counsellors, addictions counsellors, Doctor’s, or family members.
Participation is voluntary, client directed and flexible which means that we base our support on what our youth identify as their needs and how we can best meet them.
The first step is a telephone conversation to determine interest and appropriate services. Afterwards, we set up an appointment to outline a collaborative approach to continue.
Practical assistance such as bus passes, food vouchers, housing and employment needs are provided.
Emotional support can range from teaching life skills, problem solving and interpersonal skills to Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT) which includes crisis management, emotional regulation, interpersonal effectiveness and mindfulness – how to live in the moment. DBT is especially helpful for Borderline Personality Disorder as well as other complex mental health concerns.
Community referrals for additional resources are also explored to ensure that every opportunity is exhausted to help our young adults reach their personal goals and gain independence.
We focus on strength’s, respect and flexibility to provide a customized solution for every client we serve.
Building upon strength’s and teaching valuable skills to youth with mental health needs encourages their ability to develop positive relationships and experience a better quality of life.
